YOGA CLASS @School

YOGA CLASS OBSERVATION at SKVVHSS THRIKKANNAMANGAL

Date: October 15, 2024

Location: SKVVHSS Thrikkannamangal

Observer: Lal Sir, Physical Education Teacher from BMMTC Kottarakkara

Class: 8 C

Duration: 40 Minutes

On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, I had the opportunity to take a yoga class  for the 8 C students at SKVVHSS Thrikkannamangal. The session was organized to introduce students to the fundamentals of yoga, specifically focusing on two essential poses from Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation): Hastauttanasana (Raised Arms Pose) and Ashtanganamaskar (Eight-Limbed Pose).

Class Overview:

Introduction to Yoga:

The session began with a brief introduction to the importance of yoga and its benefits for physical and mental well-being. The students showed a keen interest, eager to learn the techniques.

Demonstration of Poses:

I selected ten students randomly from the class to ensure everyone had a chance to participate. I demonstrated the two yoga poses, performing each one twice from the front and then from the side to provide a clear view of the techniques. This method allowed the students to observe the postures closely and understand the alignment of their bodies.

Student Participation:

After the demonstrations, I encouraged the students to attempt the poses themselves. As they practiced, I walked around the class, providing individual feedback and clarifications to help them correct any mistakes. This hands-on approach was vital in ensuring they grasped the correct techniques and form for both poses.

Conclusion:

The 40 Minute class was a rewarding experience, both for the students and myself. Observing their progress and enthusiasm for yoga was encouraging. The session ended with a brief discussion on how regular practice of these poses can enhance flexibility, strength, and concentration.

This yoga class was not just an exercise in physical education; it was a wonderful opportunity to instill mindfulness and promote healthy habits among the students. The engagement and enthusiasm shown by Class 8 C reflect the potential of incorporating yoga into the school curriculum.

INNOVATIVE WORK SEM III

Innovative Model Showcasing in the Classroom: A Hands-On Approach to Learning Ventilation

As a part of lesson development, I integrated an innovative working model of ventilation to enhance students' understanding of inspiration and expiration. This hands-on activity served as the first engagement in the lesson, capturing students' curiosity and providing them with an experiential learning opportunity.

The Working Model of Ventilation

The model was designed to demonstrate the mechanism of breathing, simulating how the diaphragm, lungs, and rib cage function during inhalation and exhalation.

Introducing the model at the beginning of the lesson allowed students to observe and interact with the process before diving into theoretical explanations. This approach helped in:

•Building Curiosity: Students were eager to understand how the model functioned.
•Active Participation: They engaged in discussions and predictions about how breathing occurs.
•Better Concept Retention: Seeing the process in action made it easier for students to connect with textbook concepts.

Using a hands-on model proved to be an effective pedagogical strategy. Students found the session interactive and engaging, and they could relate theoretical knowledge to real-life physiological functions. Many of them expressed that this practical approach made learning more enjoyable and comprehensible.
